Frisbee gives presentation on budget

Business Manager Leslie Frisbee reported to the Northwestern Lehigh School Board that the budget is on target.

She explained the various fund balance categories.

Superintendent Mary Anne Wright said the funds are not to be used for recurring costs but only for their specified uses.

The school usually buys two buses and two vans, but will probably purchase three buses this year.

One costs approximately $93,000, and a utility vehicle will cost between $20,000 to $25,000.

The bid for oil and diesel will not be received until May.

The contribution to the school retirement fund will be $24 million.

Textbooks are expected to cost $23,000 but the amount can change.

Changes to the budget can be made through April.

The proposed fiscal budget is final in May.

By June, minor changes can still be made and, by the June board meeting, it is adopted.

In other matters, Leann Stitzel, director of curriculum, gave an update on the curriculum documents that can be found on the web.

Forty-eight of the 49 will be on much the same design.

They all list the objectives.

However, kindergarten is different because it explains how they plan to move forward as kindergarten becomes all day next year.

Not all of the curriculum documents are updated every year.

Textbooks will be available at the April meeting.

Regarding the 2018-19 school calendar, Superintendent Mary Anne Wright said the year would begin the week before Labor Day with five snow days built in.
