Cherry trees to be planted

Earth day

In celebration of Earth Day, Switchback Pizza, 525 W. Jubilee St., Emmaus, is sponsoring the planting of five Okame ornamental cherry trees adjacent to the business. The trees are scheduled for planting between the hours of 9 and 11 a.m. April 22.

Switchback Pizza owners Marguerite Viola and Andrew Foreman developed the project. They have raised $400 through patron donations and through a beer swap supported by the Funk Brewing Company of Emmaus. Switchback is donating $100 to meet the purchase price of the trees.

Planting will be accomplished by Switchback patron volunteers and overseen by members of the Emmaus Shade Tree Commission. Wildlands Conservancy of Emmaus is lending gator bags which supply water to newly planted trees. Switchback is providing a free pizza lunch to volunteers who help with the planting.
