District news: Alexander Eddinger moves on to National Chemistry Olympiad

On March 17, three of Whitehall High School’s top chemistry students participated in the local Chemistry Olympiad Competition at Muhlenberg College. Alexander Eddinger, Samantha Ganser and Caterine Yunez-Cosme all participated in the event, which consisted of a paper exam.

Alexander scored high enough on the exam to be invited to take part in the national exam, which will be held at Muhlenberg College April 21. He will represent the Lehigh Valley section of the American Chemical Society in the 2018 U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad.

Seven WHS students competed in the 2018 Emmaus Model Congress March 20. Representatives and senators debated modifications to the new tax law, net neutrality, immigration and FEMA’s disaster response.

Ashley Ziegenfuss, Freddie Tirado and Braydan Issermoyer won awards for their negotiating skills.

Whitehall Theater Club is presenting “The Addams Family Musical” 7 p.m. April 12-14 and 2 p.m. April 15 in the auditorium of the high school.

Steckel Elementary School staff and students have just started their annual MiniThon fundraiser to help the WHS Student Council and its MiniThon efforts. Staff and students are having a loose change drive.

On April 13, students will enjoy a MiniThon dance in the gymnasium.

The Harlem Wizards basketball game will be 7 p.m. April 20 at the Whitehall High School gymnasium. Doors open 6 p.m. for a game between the Wizards and Whitehall staff.
