Freedom High School presents “Once Upon a Mattress,” a musical comedy inspired by “The Princess and the Pea,” a Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, at 7 p.m. April 11, 12, 13, 14 and 2 p.m. April 15, auditorium, Freedom High School, 3149 Chester Avenue, Bethlehem.
The show, with music by Mary Rodgers, lyrics by Marshall Barer, and book by Jay Thompson, Dean Fuller, and Marshall Barer, opened on Broadway in 1959.
The Freedom production is directed by Jennifer Wescoe, assisted by vocal directors Nick Conti, who is also assistant director, and Adam Conti, and choreographer Jerri Brown.
The 1959 Broadway production received two Tony Award nominations and the 1996 Broadway revival was nominated for one Tony.
Notable songs include “Shy,” “Opening For A Princess,” “In A Little While,” and “Sensitivity.”
