Salisbury Township Recreation Director Genny Baillie updated the recreation advisory committee on the Lindberg Park Master Plan progress at the March 19 meeting held at the township municipal building.

Baillie said meetings have been held during the last two weeks with the architect, Alloy5, to answer questions about the pavilion, bathrooms and locking systems.

Baillie said the consultant is expected to request bids for the week after Easter which will include the pavilion, restrooms, playground and pickle ball court.

The construction would be started in May or June.

Baillie said the contractor will stage the equipment in the big parking area at Lindberg Park and a big chunk of the parking area will be unavailable to the public.

It is expected the ball field, tennis and basketball areas will be open so Baillie said she will be signing off on the permit requests that have come in.

“It’s a go,” Baillie said. She also said the township will bring in portable toilets during construction.

There was a discussion on the egg hunt which was scheduled for March 24. The egg hunt was canceled due to the spring snow storm March 21.

In committee reports, Frank McCullough asked if another bicycle rack could be installed at Green Acres Park on the Andrea Drive side. McCullough also commended the public works department for the great job they did with the trees at Lindberg Park and the sweet gum tree pods on the ground.

Baillie updated the committee on the playground program and said due to construction, there will not be a program at Lindberg Park this summer. Students will go to either Green Acres Park or Devonshire Park.

Baillie has received a stack of applicants for playground counselors and noted there may be a reduction in staff because of Lindberg Park construction. She will have additional counselors at both Green Acres and Devonshire parks.

It is unclear when the playground program will begin due to the school district snow makeup days.

Kim Ringhoffer updated the committee on community day which will be held in conjunction with the Salisbury Police Department National Night Out 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 7.

It is hoped the event will be held at both Salisbury Middle School and Western Salisbury Elementary School.

Ringhoffer said she met with Salisbury Police Department Det. Chris Casey to coordinate activities for the event. Although planning continues, activities talked about include a moon bounce, obstacle course, a disc jockey, a dunk tank, basket raffle, face painting, community vendors, used book sale, therapy dogs, bingo, a food stand and a baked goods sale.

Ringhoffer said volunteers will be needed and said she will reach out to various organizations to seek volunteers, food donations, basket donations and prizes.

The next meeting will be held 7:30 p.m. May 21 in the municipal building, 2900 S. Pike Ave.
