District news: Jacky Mansour earns scholarship
Congratulations to Jacky Mansour for receiving the Youth Volunteer Scholarship for her volunteerism with Whitehall High School’s SERVE Club.
Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley is honoring Lehigh Valley volunteers for the work they have done with local nonprofits at the 2018 Breakfast for Champions, to be held April 12 at Renaissance Allentown. Each recipient was nominated by Lehigh Valley nonprofit representatives who thought the volunteer’s service was above and beyond, and the judging panels thoughtfully reviewed each submission.
The Volunteer Center’s core focus includes volunteer coordinating for individuals, teams and businesses. It provides extensive training programs that include board service, volunteer coordination training and nonprofit skill building. It has been serving the Lehigh Valley for 30 years as a capacity builder, resource provider and connector for the nonprofit and business communities, as well as individuals who want to give back to the community.

Whitehall-Coplay School District’s band program is currently collecting used band instruments to add to its supply. Flute, clarinet, bass, alto, tenor, baritone saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, baritone tuba, snare drum and bell kit are being sought.
The department will take any instrument regardless of the condition. A company will pay the district music department for instruments that are beyond repair; that money will go toward the band budget for new instruments. Bring the instrument to the school office where your student attends.
Email Kevin Miller, elementary band director, at millerk@whitehallcoplay.org.
