Tickets for Central Catholic’s spring musical “Disaster!” are now on sale. In the show, 1970s tunes take center stage in this side-splitting homage to classic disaster films. The show runs 7 p.m. April 5 and 6 and 2 and 7 p.m. April 7. Tickets can be purchased at acchs.info.

Model UN was held at Lehigh University March 16. During the day, students acted as “delegates” to the United Nations by preparing resolutions, negotiating with other countries and navigating the UN’s rules of procedure. Central placed second overall with nine medalists. Medal winners included seniors Gabby Thomas and Trevor Tormann; juniors Natasha Kuklis, Tom Perun, Justin Poccia, Ryan Schanta and Alex Strohl; sophomore Priyanka Bhashyam and freshman Ashleigh Meskill.

The Scholastic Scrimmage team saw success at the Spartan Invitational March 17, defeating Phillipsburg 990-310 in the final. The competing team consisted of junior Alex Strohl and seniors Andrew Buck, Meghan Carbone and Colton Schrettner.

Student Jacob Roma was recently presented with the Liberty Bell Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award. The award honors students who demonstrate dependability, service, leadership and patriotism.

The 2019 student council held the first Viking bingo March 23. The event benefited the Class of 2019 and the William J. Wester Memorial Fund, which aids families with parental mental health issues. The night featured Fr. Mark Searles as the announcer, an authentic bingo machine and a basket raffle.

Central Catholic athletes continue to have numerous achievements this spring.

Lily Atiyeh placed fifth in girls diving with a score of 352.6 at the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association 2A swimming state championships held March 17 at Bucknell University.

Margaux Eripret has been nominated for Lehigh Valley Live girls basketball player of the year. Eripret averaged 12.2 points per game and made the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference second team. Senior Jay Vaughan was also nominated for boys basketball player of the year. He averaged 11.1 points per game and made the EPC first team.

Scholar athletes Eripret, Kevin Kern, Dat Lambert, Kayla Reed and Vaughan were honored at the Via All-Star Classic March 31. The 1984 Viking basketball team was also inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame at the event.

The Viking Lacrosse team, defending District XI 2A Champions, overcame Parkland 14-12 March 28 at Parkland High School. The Vikings came back from a 12-6 Trojan lead in the fourth quarter, scoring eight goals. On March 25, the team provided and served food at the Allentown Rescue Mission. The event, organized by athlete Zack Nelson, fed over 70 people and was an excellent opportunity to give back to the community during the Lenten season.

Central Catholic graduate Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman (2014) helped lead the Michigan Wolverines to victory 58-54 March 24. He later competed with the Wolverines in the Final Four in San Antonio March 31.

Central will hold numerous shadow days in the coming months for potential students. Any student in seventh grade and above is welcome to follow a Central student for a day to experience a usual day at the school. Dates in April include April 5, 12, 19 and 26. Dates in May include May 3, 10, 17 and 24.

Chaplain Fr. Mark Searles was recently appointed the director of vocations promotion for the Diocese of Allentown. He will focus on “developing resources and programs to encourage vocational awareness that can be used in parishes, diocesan elementary and secondary schools and on college campuses,” the Diocese website states. He will also maintain his position as chaplain at Central Catholic.

The Class of 1968 will hold its 50th anniversary celebration in June. A luncheon will be held 1 to 5 p.m. June 2 at Fegley’s Allentown Brew Works. Reservations must be made by April 30; information can be found at acchs.info/reunion-news. Other events include the Class of 2018 Commencement 7 p.m. June 1, tours of the school 10 a.m. to noon June 2 and 9 a.m. Sunday mass at the Cathedral of St. Catherine of Sienna in Allentown.
