Allentown Central: ‘Disaster!’

“Disaster!,” a spoof of classic disaster films, comes to the stage at 7 p.m. April 5, 6 and 2 and 7 p.m. April 7, auditorium, Allentown Central Catholic High School, 301 N. Fourth St., Allentown.

Kateri Swavely-Verenna directs the Allentown Central Catholic High School production, aided by assistant director and choreographer Adrienne Motley and music director Hunter Chadeayne.

The plot involves several New Yorkers attending the opening of a floating casino and disco that is beset with multiple disasters, which mirror themes from movies such as “Earthquake” popular in the 1970s. The jukebox musical features songs from that decade.

“We would prefer not to list any songs in advance of the production. It gives away some of the humor. We are not even listing them in the program,” notes Swavely-Verenna.

Created by Seth Rudetsky, and written by Seth Rudetsky and Jack Plotnick, the musical comedy premiered on Broadway in 2016, receiving one Tony Award nomination.
