EMMAUS HIGH SCHOOL

Visitors to Emmaus High School March 17 were greeted by the aroma of soups, creating a smell similar to that of Sunday supper at grandma’s house.

The event was the eighth annual Mud Club Empty Bowls fundraiser, benefiting the food program for the Angel Network in the East Penn School District.

Attendees were invited to peruse dozens of glazed bowls created by the school’s Mud Club under the guidance of advisor Lisa Caruso.

The bowls were $20 each. In addition to the glazed bowls, this year the students crafted mugs which were $5.

Slow cookers filled with soups donated by local restaurants and individuals lined the walls of the EHS cafeteria.

Those who purchased a bowl were able to fill their empty bowls with as many of the soups as they choose.

Caruso who has been working with pottery since she was in her 20s said each bowl takes her a few minutes to form. Once formed, a foot is created for the bowl. Each bowl is then bisque fired. The student’s creativity is the next step, as they design each bowl. The final steps in the process are to glaze and fire the bowls.
