Title I family night is April 3
Northampton Area High School is hosting a Title I spring family night event titled “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs: A Celebration of Reading and Math” 6-7:30 p.m. April 3 in the high school auditorium.
Title I events are federally funded programs used for improving academic proficiency in reading and math and are held on an annual basis. Dr. Kathleen E. Ott, director of data, grants and special programs for Northampton Area School District, organized this year’s spring family night and will be speaking more about Title I programs at the event.
“Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs: A Celebration of Reading and Math” will feature New York City’s NBC meteorologist Erica Grow, who will share how reading and math were essential components in her career. Grow, a Bethlehem native and Liberty High School graduate, will be giving a presentation and will be available for a meet and greet with guests.
Science demonstrations that relate to weather, prepared by the high school and middle school science departments, will be conducted. Green-screen demos, just like on the Weather Channel, will be also showcased at this event.
Northampton Area High School drama students will be dressed as characters from the movie “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs,” offering students career cards related to career readiness, with information on various “cool careers.”
There will also be a book giveaway for students with many books relating to weather.
Northampton Area Public Library will be in attendance to share information about the library’s programs and upcoming summer events.
Aramark will provide snacks and refreshments, such as meatballs, cheese, juice and crackers. Bethlehem Area Vocational-Technical School’s culinary students will be providing desserts.
This is a free event open to students, ages pre-K through grade 5, and their parents in the NASD.
