Macungie Borough Council held its meeting March 19, where they discussed the suggestion by a resident to change the speed limit on Main Street to 25 mph. A study must be completed by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation before a change could be made. The study would be paid for by PennDOT.

Another traffic study is being completed by PennDOT on Green Street between Chestnut and Walnut streets.

A resolution was proposed to State Rep. Ryan Mackenzie, R-134th, over the issue of absentee council members. The proposed resolution requests a solution, not to enact termination of absentees.

A public workshop will be held at Macungie Institute 7 p.m. March 26 for the streetscaping project and residential rental ordinance.

It was reported the sewer inspections are moving along. A suggestion was made for a list of certified plumbers so residents get the proper assistance.

Todd Ritter was appointed to the Macungie Borough Authority.

Five bids were received for the Americans with Disabilities Act ramp project. The bid was awarded to F.A. Rohrbach for $39,550.

Upcoming Easter activities were noted, including egg painting at Macungie Memorial Park (downstairs in Memorial Hall) 9 a.m. to noon March 31 and pictures with the Easter Bunny at Flower Park 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 31, sponsored by the Town Beautification Committee.

The annual Easter egg hunt will be held 2 p.m. April 1 at Macungie Memorial Park.

Macungie is asking for volunteers to help with the annual cleanup day April 14. Volunteers should meet at the park building between 8:30 and 9 a.m. Other meeting places are the train station and the fire department. Call the borough for specific details at 610-966-2503.

Looking ahead, April 28 will be the next drug take-back day. More information will be announced closer to the event.

A new Macungie policeman was introduced during the March 5 borough council meeting. Officer Daniel Wiedeman, a part-time officer, was a captain in the Allentown Police Department. He served 21 years in Allentown where he also was head of the traffic division and co-coordinator for the Lehigh County DUI Task Force.

The next borough council meeting will be held 7:30 p.m. April 2 at Macungie Institute, 510 E. Main St.
