Salisbury High School Theatre will present the musical comedy, “Once Upon A Mattress” 7 p.m. March 15, 16 and 17 and 3 p.m. March 18.

This musical will be familiar to those who know the story of “The Princess and The Pea;” however, in this show there is a spin which provides for some side-splitting shenanigans for an audience of all ages.

The book, by Jay Thompson, Dean Fuller and Marshall Barer, provides a few twists to the familiar fairy tale which will keep the audience in laughter. Music is by Mary Rodgers and lyrics by Marshall Barer.

The cast includes Margaux Petruska as Minstrel, Johnny Nguyen as Wizard, Sophie Ravenelle as Lady Larkin, Michael Tiao as Sir Harry, Dezi Correa as Queen Aggravain, Connor Zamora as Prince Dauntless, Owen Mendes as King Sextimus the Silent, Josh Kim as Jester, Sara Lamana as Princess Winnifred, Brogan Shay as Sir Studley, Jarell Rios as Sir Luce, Angela Harrison as Princess #12, Kyleigh Vicoso as Rowena, Eliza Wiener as Lady Lucille, Margaret Carl as Lady H, Abigail Gross as Lady Merrill, Ryann Thomson as Lady Mabelle, Abby Correll as Emily and Laura Talaber as Kitchen Wench. Thomson, Kayla Trenge and Talaber are knights in the production.

Members of the crew include Hanna Martin, Rory Watson, Padraig Shay, Rebecca Aungst, Nicole Reyes, Shayna Trinidad, Safire Brotzman, Kobe McCloud, Duncan Yankovich, Arianna Tavarez, Cheyanne Twining and Shane Donaldson.

The director for the production is Will Windsor Erwin, assistant director is Dustin Seymour, student director is Angela Harrison, musical director is Nina Elias, choreographer is Kirsten Almeida, technical director is Chris West, lighting designer is Scott Ross and stage managers are Hanna Martin and Rory Watson. The production assistant is Cherie Pennella.

For the seniors, many of whom have been in all of the Salisbury productions, this will be their last show.

“It’s a very bittersweet time,” Petruska said. “I’m very happy to have such a great cast for my final show.:

“It’s weird this as our last show,” Mendes said. “I think it will hit me after the last show.”

This is Zamora’s third production with Salisbury. “I’m really excited. The show is really funny – both kids and adults will get some of the jokes and adults will get some of the jokes. I love the costumes because they are so ornate. I’m excited,” Zamora said.

“It’s great to end our careers with such a strong pool of talent,” Kim said. “It is set up with such a huge potential for the program to continue.”

This is the fourth show for McCloud. “It’s a fun show for everyone – a family show,” McCloud said. “It’s been a wild ride. It is interesting to see the friends you grew up with in an alternate character. I’m thankful to be a part of the theater family.”
