There are now only two entrances open when students arrive to Emmaus High School at the beginning of the day – this information has been provided to families.

All students who arrive late to school and do not have a late arrival privilege on their schedules will continue to report to the main office.

Students Against Destructive Decisions are selling orange ribbons as a means of showing support for the National School Walkout March 14. Ribbons will be sold during lunches. Let these ribbons serve as a daily reminder to reduce violence not only on a global level but on a local level as well. Not only one day, but all days.

The EHS Mud Club and the EHS Angel Network are sponsoring the Empty Bowls event 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 17 in the EHS cafeteria. The eighth annual event helps raise money for the food program of the Angel Network. Choose from a selection of stoneware bowls made especially for this event. There is a donation; the soup and bread are complimentary and the bowls are yours to keep as a reminder there are hungry people in the community.

Mud Club members are needed to attend the meetings this month after school Thursdays in Room 520.

“West Side Story” will run March 21 through 25 in the EHS auditorium. Shows are 7 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are now available via the EHS website. A complimentary performance for senior Gold Card members will be held 6 p.m. March 20. Gold card members must present East Penn School District gold cards at the door on the evening of the performance. The gold card will serve as a ticket. Gold cards will not be accepted at other performances.

Students who are not currently enrolled in Lehigh Carbon Technical Institute but wish to attend next year must complete the LCTI application and return it to the counseling office no later than March 23. Applications can be picked up in the counseling office.

Students who are currently enrolled in LCTI do not need to reapply for next year.

Interested in learning more about the United States Service Academies? U.S. Senator Patrick Toomey and U.S. Congressman Charles Dent, R-15th, will host a U.S. Service Academy Information Day March 24 at Hamburg High School. Presentations on the nomination process will begin promptly 9 a.m. Talk with Congressman Dent, staff from Senator Toomey’s office and representatives of the Air Force, Naval, Merchant Marine and Coast Guard Academies, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and the ROTC to gain a better understanding of the nomination and admission process.

The EHS counseling office has partnered with members of the Lehigh Valley community to offer career presentations during the school day to students. Students will register on Naviance to attend the informational meetings. These opportunities will be open to all students regardless of grade level. Students who attend the visits will automatically be entered to win a $25 gift card from Wawa.

Sal Verrastro, a partner with Spillman Farmer Architects, located in Bethlehem, will visit EHS 9 a.m. March 16.

The 2018 EHS local scholarship list is now available to seniors. Scholarship applications must be picked up in the counseling office; no substitutions will be accepted. The scholarship deadline is March 28.

The maintenance department is accepting applications for summer maintenance employment. Application are in the main office, guidance office and on the district website. Deadline for receipt of applications is April 2.

Principal Dr. Kate Kieres and other administrators and faculty will continue to be available after school Thursdays in the multi-media room. They would love to continue to talk with groups of students about matters of school safety and advocacy. A supervised space for student groups to meet and plan advocacy activities will be available.

Clubs and organizations creating signs may not post them around the school without administrative permission. Additionally, students are not to remove any posted signs from bulletin boards or other locations without permission.
