Two men facing drug charges in South Whitehall

District Attorney Jim Martin recently announced two men were charged following a drug arrest at the Howard Johnson Inn and Suites, 3220 Hamilton Blvd., South Whitehall.

Ronald L. Hughes, 42, no current address, and Jonathan Lasalle, 26, of 605 Ridge St., Bethlehem, are each facing four counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, a felony; four counts of possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor; and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor.

Around 8:50 p.m. on Feb. 27 members of the Lehigh County Drug Task Force assisted South Whitehall police serve an arrest warrant on Hughes for simple assault and theft related to an alleged incident which had occurred earlier that day at the same location. Officers located the room in which Hughes was staying and they knocked on the door, which was answered by Hughes.

Another individual, Lasalle, was also seen in the room. He was allegedly engaged in what appeared to be weighing controlled substances. A search warrant was obtained, the result of which yielded a significant amount of heroin and methamphetamine.

In addition, packaging material, a digital scale, and hypodermic needles were found.

Both men are in Lehigh County Jail, after being arraigned before District Judge Jacob Hammond, South Whitehall. Bail was set at $75,000 each.
