Homeland Security, ICE join search for missing teen

The Department of Homeland Security has confirmed to The Press that, according to ICE officials, the Philadelphia HSI office is involved in the case of missing 16-year-old Allentown teen, Amy Yu, but would not comment further on the investigation.

Allentown Police are attempting to locate Yu and Kevin Michael Esterly, 45, who remain missing since March 5.

According to the Allentown Police Department Facebook page, Yu and Kevin Michael Esterly could have traveled together in a 1999 two-door red Honda Accord with Pennsylvania license plate KLT 0529.

In a media advisory emailed on March 13, Allentown police say the car may be parked in the Philadelphia area.

Yu is an Asian female, standing 4 feet 11 inches tall and weighing approximately 90 pounds.

Esterly is a white male, standing 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing 185 pounds. Yu is a student at Lehigh Valley Academy Regional Charter School, Bethlehem.

Esterly had previous addresses in Allentown, Germansville, New Tripoli and Schnecksville.

According to Dun and Bradstreet’s online business directory, he owned the former KME Concrete LLC in New Tripoli.

Allentown Assistant Police Chief Bill Reinik spoke with The Press March 9 about their disappearance.

“Basically, we have a 45-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl who left together, and we are considering them endangered,” Reinik said. “The two families met through Esterly’s children at church.

“Our No. 1 goal is to locate the 16-year-old and bring her home safely. We are working with federal and state law enforcement agencies to locate them.”

Reinik would not release any other information.

According to an affidavit of probable cause obtained from District Judge Patricia M. Engler’s office, Allentown Police Officer Andrew Hackman states that on Feb. 8 Mui Luu, Yu’s mother, reported her daughter had been signed out of school earlier in the day by Esterly without her permission.

According to the affidavit, both Esterly and his wife, Stacey, were advised on Feb. 15 to stay away from Luu’s home because she did not want them to have contact with her daughter.

Hackman states between Nov. 13, 2017, and Feb. 9 Kevin Esterly had signed Yu out of school 10 times, which Luu never gave him permission to do.

According to the affidavit, Yu was interviewed Feb. 20 and allegedly admitted Esterly had fraudulently signed her out of school five to six times without her mother’s knowledge.

Hackman states around 6:35 p.m. on March 5, Luu reported her daughter as a runaway and said she was last seen at 7:09 a.m. that same day in the area of N. 15th and W. Allen Sts., Allentown.

According to Hackman, Luu said money, jewelry and her daughter’s personal documents were taken from her home without her permission.

According to the affidavit, Stacey Esterly said approximately $4,000 was withdrawn from her bank account by her husband the same day and she last saw him at 6:05 a.m. that morning at their home.

She also stated her husband’s personal documents were taken from their home.

Hackman states due to the fact Yu and Esterly have disappeared, they both removed money and personal documents and the secretive nature of their relationship, an arrest warrant has been issued for interference with custody of children against Esterly.

Anyone who may have seen or knows the whereabouts of Yu and Esterly is asked to call 911, their local police department, or the Allentown Police Communications Center at 610-437-7751 and report their location.
