State Rep. Ryan Mackenzie, R-134th, announced March 2 he will exit the race for congress in the new 7th District created by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.

“When the Supreme Court threw the congressional elections into upheaval through its overreach and activism, I was approached by residents of all parties from my state House district to circulate nominating petitions for that office,” Mackenzie stated. “I did that and have now officially filed for state representative. I feel an obligation to answer the request of the people I serve and focus on re-election to the state House.”

Mackenzie now faces a potential primary election opponent, as well as one announced general election opponent for the State House.

“I look forward to once again presenting my record as a proven, effective and independent representative before the voters to earn their support,” Mackenzie stated. “From standing up for taxpayers by stopping a disastrous income and sales tax increase, to supporting funding to deliver a quality education, to addressing issues important to our local community, I have always worked hard for common sense results that help everyone.”

Asked about his views on the congressional race, Mackenzie responded, “We face many challenges as a nation and addressing them will take leaders committed to a conservative path of smaller government, lower taxes on working Americans, and support for job creators. I am sure whoever wins the Republican nomination will be a very good choice on this front and will have my support.”
