EYER MIDDLE SCHOOL
Eyer Middle School, 5616 Buckeye Road, Macungie, will present “Getting to Know…Once Upon A Mattress” 7 p.m. March 8 and 9 and 2 and 7 p.m. March 10.
“Getting to Know…Once Upon A Mattress” is part of the “Getting to Know” series with music by Mary Rodgers, lyrics by Marshall Barer and the book by Jay Thompson, Dean Fuller and Barer.
The musical comedy is an adaptation of “The Princess and The Pea” with a couple of surprises and is appropriate for all age groups.
The characters live in a faraway kingdom a very long time ago. Since the King is unable to speak, his wife, Queen Aggravain, controls the kingdom and her son Prince Dauntless. The unhappy Queen creates a test a princess must pass before she can marry the Queen’s son.
In “The Princess and The Pea,” the audience knows the test includes placing a tiny pea at the bottom of 20 mattresses. If the princess cannot sleep, she is a true princess.
However, in “Getting to Know…Once Upon A Mattress,” is it a pea under the mattress?
A series of comical events will entertain the audience as they wait to see if the prince and princess will be allowed to marry.
The production is directed by Jennifer Najarian, Molly Magro and Jacque Swauger. Najarian is also the choreographer.
The musical director is Lindsay Graziano, the music teacher at Shoemaker Elementary School.
The technical director is Matt Krempasky.
“This show is truly a school-wide effort,” Najarian said. The entire Eyer family has been a great help, especially the main office staff who fielded ticket orders and parent phone calls and the custodial staff for their help with the stage and backstage area. Thanks also to our administrators Mike Kelly and Erin Murphy for their support.”
The cast includes Rylee Andrayko as Princess Winnifred; Ethan Ferris as Prince Dauntless; Payton McGlory as Lady Larken; Zachary Ritter as Sir Harry; Rosie Holderith as Queen Aggravain; Ethan Ervin as King; Christian Mendieta as Jester; Danica Schueck as Minstrel; Gabi Kutz as Wizard; Maggie Machulsky as Lucille and Madeline Carlson as Rowena.
