The 10th Street Culvert Replacement Project was awarded to Doli Construction Corporation, of Chalfont, with a low bid of $279,032 at the March 5 Emmaus Borough Council meeting.

Borough Manager Shane Pepe said nine bids were received for this project.

Pepe said the project was expected to be approximately $225,000 before the scope of the project changed multiple times due to input from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. He also said the project was included in the budget and with an expected grant, the borough will still be able to complete other road construction projects.

Councilman Wesley Barrett sought approval for the 41st Emmaus 4 Mile Race with the Lehigh Valley Road Runners April 8.

Carl Cramer was appointed to the Emmaus Library Board with a term expiring Jan. 1, 2021.

Councilwoman Teri Sorg-McManamon offered a letter of resignation from the Emmaus Arts Commission as did Olivia Trotman – both terms expire February 2019. Residents should contact the borough if interested in being considered for these openings.

An ordinance was approved to remove a residential handicapped parking sign in front of 546 Broad St. This was the first reading of the ordinance.

Councilman Jeffrey Shubzda discussed the Earth Day community cleanup/recycling event which is a shared event with Upper Milford.

Earth Day is scheduled 8:30 a.m. to noon April 14 at Emmaus Community Park, rain or shine.

Shubzda said the price has gone up to $750 for the recycling trucks. Shubzda said last year it was an almost even split between Emmaus and Upper Milford residents taking items to be recycled.

“It is a good event for residents,” Shubzda said. He also reminded residents Emmaus offers electronic recycling once a month.

Residents can drop-off E-waste at the E-waste dumpster beside the Public Works Department garage on Kline’s Lane. The site is open noon to 6 p.m. on the second Monday of each month.

Residents are able to drop off three electronic devices at no charge. There is a charge for additional items. For more information, visit the borough website at www.borough.emmaus.pa.us.

Pepe noted the compost center opens March 7.

Solicitor Jeffrey Dimmich said the JetPay payroll agreement has been signed.

Dimmich also provided each council member with a CD including all agreements, the Lehigh County Authority agreements and 15 memorandums detailing the complete history of the sewage system.
