Roy E. Danner Sr.
Roy E. Danner Sr., 71, of Allentown, died March 5, 2018, in the hospice unit of Lehigh Valley Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
He and his wife Sheila M. (Hawk) Danner were married nearly 53 years.
Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Samuel H. and Evelyn L. (Shaffer) Danner.
For 38 years, he owned and operated Roy Danner Paving, which his family will continue to operate.
Before that, he was a mechanic at Jack Dankel Chevrolet, later becoming the used car sales manager.
Currently, he was serving as a geologist on the board of directors for the Lehigh County Agriculture Society.
He had ties to local auto racing as a concessionaire, official and competitor at the former Dorney Park Speedway, Nazareth Raceway and Harmony Speedway, as well as a supporter of the Keystone State Quarter Midget Race Club and the Checkered Flag Fan Club.
He was a recipient of The Friend of the Schnecksville Fair Award, an achievement given by the fair association.
Throughout the years, he has been a member of various fire companies and social halls.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son Roy E. Jr. and his wife, Melissa M.; daughter Michelle A. Ritter, all of Allentown; grandchildren Travis, Collin, Kyle, Ashley, Briggs, Gavin, and many other who considered him their “Pappy”; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother Samuel H. Jr.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. March 9 in Trexler Funeral Home, 1625 W. Highland St., Allentown 18102.
Calling will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday and 9-10:30 a.m. Friday
Burial will follow the service at Grandview Cemetery, South Whitehall.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Checkered Flag Fan Club, (supporting injured drivers) c/o the funeral home.
