Lincoln Leadership Academy Charter School presents “The Wiz: The Super Soul Musical ‘Wonderful Wizard of Oz.’”
Show times are 7 p.m. March 8, 9, 10 and 2 p.m. March 11, Samuels Theatre, Tompkins College Center, Cedar Crest College, 100 College Drive, Allentown.
Adam Soto is director, assisted by choreographer Victor Abreu and music director Katherine Moyer.
Based on the “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” by L. Frank Baum, the musical tells the classic tale from an African-American perspective, with music by Charlie Smalls, Timothy Graphenreed, Harold Wheeler, George Faison, and Luther Vandross, lyrics by Smalls, Vandross, and Zachary Walzer, and book by William F. Brown. The 1975 Broadway production received eight Tony Award nominations, winning seven.
Songs include “Ease on Down the Road,” “Be a Lion,” “Don’t Nobody Bring me No Bad News,” “Everybody Rejoice,” and “Home.”
