To some, Deer Tick might sound like an odd name for a rock band.

According to Deer Tick guitarist Ian O’Neil, that was the point, to some degree.

“John [McCauley, lead singer] was hiking in Indiana and was bit by a deer tick,” O’Neil explains in a phone interview. “The story goes that it sounded off-putting enough to make for a great band name.”

Deer Tick is in concert, 8 p.m. March 6, Musikfest Cafe, SteelStacks, Bethlehem, to continue the second half of the “Twice is Nice” tour.

Much of the tour focuses on the duality of the band’s most recent albums, “Deer Tick Vol. 1,” an acoustic-only album, and “Deer Tick Vol. 2,” a rock album. Each concert features tan acoustic set and an electric set.

“The tour model of two sets comes from having put together two distinct albums,” O’Neil says. “We feel like our fans might enjoy an all-encompassing version of our band.”

The two albums are the first that Deer Tick has released since 2013, ushering in a new, exciting time for the alternative band founded in 2004 in Providence, R.I. In addition to O’Neil and McCauley, the band includes bassist Chris Ryan and drummer Dennis Ryan.

The group’s albums include “War Elephant,” 2007; “Born on Flag Day,” 2009; “The Black Dirt Sessions,” 2010, and “Divine Providence,” 2011.

“We’ve settled into a more focused state of mind than ever. It felt incredibly special to come back with something we’re so proud of.”

O’Neil hopes that this will lead to more creativity, productivity, and positivity for the band. It also allows Deer Tick to present a variety of aspects, showing off some of the group’s strongest music yet.

“We’d just like to keep making albums and playing those new songs for anyone who would like to hear them.”

As the tour nears its conclusion, there’s a mounting anticipation for the remaining shows and what the band has to offer.

“We’re working and playing as hard as possible for you and no show gets less attention than any other.”
