Bobeck earns top seed in two D-11 events

The Salisbury boys and girls swim teams are set to compete in this weekend’s District 11 Class 2A Swimming Championships. Competition is set to begin on Friday at Parkland High School, with events wrapping up on Saturday night.

Salisbury’s top seeded swimmer is on the girls’ side in junior captain Sarah Bobeck. She leads all 2A competitors in both the 50- and 500-yard freestyle events.

Bobeck’s seed time of 24.76 seconds is the only sub 25-second time in the 50-yard freestyle. It looks like the path to gold will go through her.

“It is an unusual combination to be swimming, but she has performed best all year in these two events,” head coach Patrick O’Connor said. “They are also spread over the two days of the meet, giving her lots of rest before each event.”

In the 500-yard freestyle, her seed time of 5:18.31 leads all competitors as well.

A number of other girls also have hopes of reaching the podium at districts, and possibly joining Bobeck at states. Senior captain Madaket Chassard is seeded third in the 200-yard freestyle (2:07.79) and fifth in the 500 freestyle (5:47.89).

Chassard and Bobeck-along with Maddy Jewell, Kerry Seiler and Julia Graver-combine to form formidable 200- and 400-yard freestyle relay events.

O’Connor hopes his boys’ squad and girls come ready to set personal bests and compete on the district stage.

“Exactly the same [goals] for the girls team, except that we have some experienced girls who we feel can compete for a state qualification in the free relay events,” O’Connor said.

The boys are led by senior captain Tim Sechler-Stone, who is seeded sixth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.04) and 10th in the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.20).

“The boys team will be well rested and ready to compete for points at the district meet,” O’Connor said. “There are many first-time district qualifiers on this district squad, and I’m hoping they all set personal bests and come to embrace the great competition of the district meet.”

Baxter Reihman is also one of O’Connor’s higher-seeded Falcons. He is seeded 14th in 100-yard butterfly (1:05.94) and 20th in the 100-yard freestyle (56.89).
