With numerous construction plans in the works across its campus, Whitehall-Coplay School Board is preparing to prioritize projects at the upcoming March 12 meeting.
In addition to the proposed $36 million development of a new kindergarten and first-grade facility to replace Gockley Elementary School, the district is reviewing a series of other projects.
At its Oct. 9, 2017, meeting, the school board unanimously approved a scope of work from the architecture firm Breslin, Ridyard and Fadero. Proposed items on that statement of work included reroofing Whitehall-Coplay Middle School, expanding the middle school’s administration and guidance offices and lighting upgrades to the Zephyr Sports Complex.
At its Jan. 22 meeting, the school board approved addendums to its master architectural agreement with Breslin, Ridyard and Fadero to include replacing the scoreboard at the football stadium and upgrades to the athletic field house.
After preliminary voting to adopt the general fund budget for the 2018-19 school year at the Feb. 12 meeting, the school board is expected to resume its budget discussions at the March 26 committee meetings.
Steckel Elementary School Principal Peter Bugbee began a leave of absence effective Feb. 20. The school board appointed Karen Nicholas as substitute principal.
