Allentown Central Catholic High School basketball continues to have success this season. Both the boys and girls teams won during the first round of leagues Feb. 12, with a 64-48 Viking win over Northampton and a 46-34 Vikette victory over Nazareth. The teams then advanced to the semifinals Feb. 14, where they played back-to-back at Liberty. During the double-header, the Vikettes beat Freedom 49-32 and the Vikings won against East Stroudsburg South with a score of 54-51. Both teams played in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference championship Feb. 16.

Viking basketball recently celebrated senior night. Seniors include Dennis Csensits, Keeshawn Kellman, Kevin Kern, Dat Lambert, Vinny Lynch, Jordan McChristian and Jay Vaughan. Vikette basketball also recently held their senior night festivities, which honored Margaux Eripret (team captain), Diana Kocsis, Kayla Reed and team manager Collin Ambrose.

Senior Jay Vaughan was named to the 2017-2018 EPC Boys Basketball All-Stars, 1st Team. Senior Margaux Eripret was named to the EPC Girls Basketball All-Stars, second team.

The Viking wrestling team celebrated senior night Feb. 13. Senior wrestlers are Jacob Roma and Jack Yanders; the senior team managers are Erin Cassel and Carly Udicious.

Central Catholic was represented by four students at the Lehigh County Chorus at Salisbury High School. Seniors Snow Du, Danica Schofer, and Amanda Wechsler, along with junior Brendan Christ, participated in the event, which featured talented singers from Lehigh County high schools.

The Science Olympiad team placed fourth out of 32 teams at the Northwestern Lehigh Tiger Invitational Feb. 10. The day brought strong performances in many categories, resulting in nine medals in 23 events. Seniors David Carolan and Molly Dougher took first place in herpetology.

Course selection meetings were held Feb. 15. Students took a period out of their day to solidify a plan for their 2018-2019 classes. A parent meeting was held later that night to inform parents about the course selection process.

The freshman student council held a spirit dress down Feb. 16 to raise money for their class. On Feb. 26, a dress down will be held in support of the Lymphoma Society. The Internat Club also held a dress down Feb. 9.

Central was closed Feb. 19 in observance of Presidents Day. The next day, a group of seniors and juniors left for the four-day Kairos XVII retreat. This event, which is held at the Jesuit Retreat Center in Wernersville, focuses on students’ relationships with self, others and God. Senior leaders gave presentations and helped to organize the retreat. The juniors on the retreat are training to be leaders for Kairos XIX, which will be held next fall.

The Class of 2018 is sponsoring the Viking Glory Dodgeball Tournament 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Feb. 24 at Elite Sports Academy in Emmaus. There is an admission charge as the event benefits the senior class and Team Krause, a nonprofit organization that raises awareness of pancreatic cancer.

An ACCHS Ladies Night to benefit Viking Fest will be held March 22 at Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza, located at Hamilton Crossings in Allentown. A percentage of all purchases will be donated to Viking Fest. The fundraiser will run all day; Happy Hour is 6 to 8 p.m. Donate an auction item, such as a gift certificate, at the event to be entered into a raffle.
