Before the regular meeting of the Lehigh County Commissioners Feb. 14, Director of General Services Richard Molchany during the General Services Committee meeting briefed the commissioners on the status of plans to consolidate Lehigh County’s and the City of Allentown’s 9-1-1 services.

When Commissioner Marty Nothstein called the regular meeting to order, the Lehigh County Commissioners appointed Paul Semmel, of North Whitehall Township and Adele Bonn Shannon, of Center Valley, to the Lehigh County Conservation District. The commissioners also appointed Lauren Condon, of Allentown, to the Children and Youth Services Advisory Board.

Commissioner Nathan Brown commended the appointees’ service as volunteers. “Voluntarism is important to the community. I encourage the public to volunteer to serve their towns and their communities.”

The board heard no old business, so moved quickly on to hearing resolutions for “first reading.”

They gave first approval to an agreement with the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission to update the hazard mitigation plan.

The commissioners tentatively approved an extension of Good Shepherd’s management contract at Cedarbrook Nursing Home. Commissioner Geoff Brace commended the work done by Good Shepherd at the nursing facility. “It’s a first-class operation.”

Commissioner Percy Dougherty expanded the positive endorsement of a renewal of Good Shepherd’s contract by making the unanimously accepted suggestion the entire board sign on as sponsors of the bill.

Also approved at the first reading were other resolutions including a sub-contract agreement with Pennsylvania State University for mosquito borne disease control.
