Fastnacht fever overtakes Good Will Fire Company

Continuing its long tradition of baking fastnachts for Shrove Tuesday, Good Will Fire Co. No. 1, Trexlertown, had a busy weekend baking, packing and selling more than 3,000 dozen Fastnachts.

As the face of the fire department is changing, and fewer community residents take up the call to volunteer, members now rely on some outside help to fill the gaps.

One volunteer even traveled from Italy to help with the effort Feb. 10.

Giada Martini traveled from Revó, Trentino, Italy, where she is a firefighter with the municipal fire department.

Her cousin, Karen, is the wife of Good Will Fire Co. Fire Marshal Dennis McArdle.

Karen McArdle’s grandfather was the first family member to move to America from Revó in the past century.
