Police in South Whitehall Township and Allentown are investigating whether three armed robberies on Feb. 12 may be connected.

South Whitehall police say at approximately 4:38 a.m. Feb. 12, several individuals entered the 15th St., A Plus Minimart, 1501 Mauch Chunk Road, South Whitehall, displaying a handgun and demanding cash. Police say during the robbery, the clerk was pushed to the floor by one of the individuals, who then removed cash from the register.

The suspects then left the store and entered a dark color SUV last seen turning northbound on Mauch Chunk Road.

South Whitehall police also say in a separate incident at approximately 5:15 a.m. the same day, two individuals approached a man who was seated in his vehicle in the parking lot of the Comfort Suites, 3712 Hamilton Blvd, South Whitehall.

Police say one of the individuals displayed a handgun and demanded cash, keys and the man’s wallet. During the course of the robbery, the man was struck by one of the individuals who ordered the man to exit his vehicle and lie on the ground.

They then took the man’s vehicle and while attempting to leave, struck a parked vehicle in the parking lot.

The suspects were last seen leaving eastbound on Hamilton Boulevard. The stolen vehicle was recovered in the 3000 block of Hamilton Blvd., South Whitehall.

A dark color SUV was reportedly seen in the area during this incident.

Allentown Police Capt. Glenn Granitz spoke with The Press Feb. 14 about an armed robbery the same day in Allentown.

“At 5:30 a.m. Feb. 12, a female was approached in the 1700 block of Chew St., Allentown, by two men who displayed a gun and made off with several items,” Granitz said, adding there were no injuries reported.

Granitz was asked if the Allentown and South Whitehall Township robberies were related.

“It is definitely a possibility,” he replied.

“The incident is under investigation. Detectives are working on it.”
