Elissa Slader
Grade: 12
Family members: I have a family of five, including myself.
Favorite subject: My favorite subject is sports health and exercise science because I am intrigued by the way the human body functions. It also led me to find interest in physical therapy.
Activities: I run track and my events are the 400 meters and 800 meters.
Next steps: I plan on attending a university, but I am not sure right now which one.
Career goals: My goal is to be a physical therapist’s assistant.
Heroes: My hero is my mom because she is one of the most hardworking women I have seen and will do anything to help me in my life journey. Another hero is my father. He too is a hard worker and full of wisdom, and I am very grateful to have his wisdom shared with me. Lastly my hero, the best of all, is Jesus Christ because he died on the cross for me and because of that, I am able to go to see Him in heaven as long as I believe. That is truly a blessing to know.
Hobbies: I like to draw. I also like to go for walks and do mileage runs. I like to sing, but not in front of others, and I like to dance. I love to travel. Last summer, I went on a trip to Paris, London, Barcelona and Rome. I always look forward to vacations. I love competing in my track events.
Volunteer/community work: Every Wednesday after school, I go across the road to the K-3 building to do math activities with the kids to better their learning. I am also a member of the hospitality committee in Mini-THON.
Likes: I like to go to church, run, sing, dance, eat, learn about the human body, my theory of knowledge class, sneakers, R&B, watch my mother do hair, read realistic fiction and hang out with my siblings and friends.
Dislikes: I do not like country music, loud chewing, when people purposely discourage others, cheap headphones, hearing others sing (even if they’re good), playing volleyball, basketball and tennis, and I don’t like losing.
Greatest accomplishment (so far): My greatest accomplishment so far has been receiving an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference Girls Track and Field All-Star Team 2016-17 season plaque for the 800 meters.
Advice for peers: You can accomplish anything. All you need to do is work smarter and have a plan for what you will do. Once you have made up your mind about what you will do, execute it.
