NOVA updates board

Kristie Wilks, executive director of Northern Valley Emergency Medical Services, updated Washington Township supervisors Feb. 6 on personnel changes and upcoming events during the board’s meeting.

David Tretter is the new assistant chief. Dr. Jonathon Trager and Dr. Aaron Ratner are volunteer co-medical directors. Both are emergency doctors for St. Luke’s.

NOVA handled 3,667 calls in 2017. Of those, 500 were in Washington Township. Ninety-five percent of the calls in Washington were handled by NOVA, with the remainder being answered by mutual aid units.

There will be a comedy night at NOVA’s Ormrod headquarters on Feb. 24. Tickets are available by calling 610-799-0460.

The auxiliary is taking orders for cherry pies. Call 610-262-1075.

Sherry Graver, township emergency management coordinator, said a hazard mitigation plan is being developed with the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission. The next meeting will be 7 p.m. Feb. 20 at Pinebrook Family Answers, 402 N. Fulton St., Allentown.

The plan is designed not only to provide a road map of how to prepare for disaster before it happens but to make the region’s municipalities eligible for Federal Emergency Management Agency disaster relief funding.

“Part of our job is to be sure residents know about hazard mitigation,” Graver told supervisors.

Act 172, which provides tax rebates for volunteer first responders was discussed. The rebate which may help with recruitment and retention, depends on the number of calls responded to by a volunteer. The chiefs must keep records of responders.

Solicitor John Ashley said the rebates can only go to responders within a municipality. If someone from outside the municipality responds with units inside a municipality, that person would not be eligible for the rebate.

Junkyard licenses were renewed for Mark Yeanish, 6855 Old Grange Road; Jack and Kyle Follweiler, 6932 Jay St.; Anthony Hanna, 4163 Best Station Road; and Clay Sauerwine, 3148 Spring Valley Road.

An $850 donation was released to the Slatedale Athletic Association.

Delinquent taxes were turned over for collection to the following: Creditech, for street lighting and fire hydrant; Berkheimer, for per capita taxes, and Northeast Revenue, for real estate taxes.

A holding tanks and providing for certain security ordinance is being advertised.

Aaron Oswald and Scott Green were appointed as alternates to the zoning hearing board during a special Jan. 15 meeting.
