Lynn Twp planners approve 24 acres for inclusion in agricultural security

Planners in Lynn Township approved land for agricultural security at their Jan. 16 meeting, recommending approval for two parcels owned by resident Christopher Wentz into the township’s agricultural security area.

The parcels recommended for approval are located along Hernhutter Strass Road, with a 23.7-acre parcel located to the north of the road and a .3-acre lot along the south side of the road.

Wentz’s request for the parcels to be approved for agricultural security first came before the Lynn Township Ag Security Committee, which held a brief meeting before the full commission meeting commenced.

The committee unanimously voted to recommend the parcels for approval.

The request then moved to the planning commission, which also unanimously approved it, recommending it to the board of supervisors for approval.

The motion was made by Planning Commission Vice Chairman Scott Nagle, with the second coming from Secretary Willard Dellicker.

Wentz’s request was previously before the township’s board of supervisors at their Dec. 14 meeting, where the board approved receipt of the request, according to minutes from the meeting.

Agricultural security areas provide multiple benefits to landowners, with participants receiving special consideration regarding nuisance ordinances, land condemnation and other benefits, according to the Pennsylvania Farmland Preservation Association.

The commission also unanimously approved a time extension for the Madison Village project at Penn’s View.

Chairman Harold Handwerk said the project was discussed “pretty thoroughly” at the last planning commission meeting.

“I don’t think we have anything to add to it ...” he said.

The commission also had to reorganize at the beginning of the meeting.

A motion was made to reappoint Handwerk as chairman, Nagle as vice chairman and Dellicker as secretary.

The motion was approved unanimously.

The next Lynn Township Planning Commission meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Feb. 20 in the Lynn Township municipal building.
