District news: Classes back on for tomorrow

There is a calendar change. Students will have school tomorrow, Feb. 16. This is a snow makeup day.

Schools will still be closed for the Presidents Day observance Feb. 19.

Pennies for Patients, also known as Pasta for Pennies, is underway at Zephyr Elementary School. This is an annual fundraiser for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Students received a small box to collect change for the cause.

The campaign will end March 8. Homeroom classrooms are competing for the most money collected. Each classroom has a chart thermometer to track its progress. The winning homeroom will receive a pasta luncheon courtesy of Olive Garden.

Zephyr Elementary School will be holding its second book bingo 6 p.m. Feb. 22. Tickets are $2 each.

Students will be bringing home detailed fliers with more information on participation. Orders can be placed for tickets. Tickets received before Feb. 20 will be sent home with students. After Feb. 20, tickets must be purchased at the door, based on availability.

Seating is limited.

There will be at least 10 bingo games played. Prizes will be books chosen from a variety of genres. There will also be special games available at an additional charge to win baskets.

Food will also be available to purchase.

All children must be accompanied by a paying adult.

A PTO assembly will be held at Gockley Elementary School Feb. 26. Barn Hill Preserve will visit the school. This mobile program offers students the unique experience to get up close and personal with animals they may have never seen before.

Students participate by asking questions, getting involved in demonstrations and responding to the speaker, making the program both educational and entertaining.

The Zephyr Pride Foundation is sponsoring a bus trip to the Philadelphia Flower Show March 3.

The bus will leave the Whitehall High School parking lot 9 a.m. and arrive at the Philadelphia Convention Center approximately 10:30 a.m. The bus will leave Philadelphia 3:30 p.m. and arrive back in Whitehall around 5 p.m.
