30 musicals set for 2018 Freddys
The State Theatre Center for the Arts has announced that 30 high schools are participating in the 2018 Freddy Awards.
The 16th year of the program again recognizes accomplishments in the production and performance of musical theater in high schools in Lehigh and Northampton counties, Pennsylvania, and Warren County, N.J.
The 2018 Freddys culminate in a three-hour television awards ceremony May 24 at the State Theatre, produced in partnership with WFMZ Channel 69. The show is broadcast 7-10 p.m. May 24 on WFMZ and wfmz.com.
Tickets are made available to participating schools first. If tickets remain, they go on sale to the public at 10 a.m. May 21.
BB&T presents the “2018 Freddy Preview Night,” 4:30-10 p.m. May 23, which is a dress rehearsal. Presented will be rehearsals of the opening and closing numbers, lead actor and actress medleys and nominees for musicals.
A preview party is held in the Easton Hospital Gallery and Annex, which includes a buffet, beverages, seating on the mezzanine level for the dress rehearsal, and silent auction.
Since 2003, more than $1 million in college scholarships, paid internships and community awards have been awarded to Freddy Awards participating students.
