BACH CHOIR:
The Bach Choir of Bethlehem and the American Bach Society are holding the 10th biennial competition for United States singers with interest in the music of J. S. Bach. On May 20, the finalists will appear before a panel of judges and an audience in Peter Hall, Moravian College, Bethlehem.
The first-prize winner chosen by the judges receives a career development grant of $3,000 and a solo performance with The Bach Choir of Bethlehem and Greg Funfgeld, Bach Choir Artistic Director and Conductor, in an upcoming season.
Up to three additional cash awards of $500 may be awarded to other finalists at the judges’ discretion.
The competition is open to citizens of the United States who were born after May 20, 1988.
Applications will be accepted by audio or video recording of two arias and one secco recitative of J.S. Bach, uploaded via the online portal. Deadline is 11:59 p.m. EST March 9, 2018.
At the finals, each singer will present two arias and one secco recitative by J.S. Bach of his or her choice (not necessarily those in the preliminary application). Piano accompanist will be provided. Finalists are welcome to bring their own accompanist.
