NORTH WHITEHALL: Area churches having events for Lent
Union United Church of Christ, Neffs, notes Lent starts on Valentine’s Day this year and ends with the Easter celebration on April Fool’s Day, April 1.
Before that spiritual journey begins, Union UCC will have a pancake, sausage, applesauce and fastnacht supper 6 p.m. Shrove Tuesday, Feb. 13.
The mealis free but donations will be accepted.
On Ash Wednesday, Feb. 14, worship services will be in the sanctuary with a quiet time for prayer, communion and ashes, noon to 12:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
To receive drive-by ashes, stop by the church parking lot 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. or 5:30-6 p.m. and have a prayer with a pastor.
On Wednesday nights during Lent, activities and crafts will be available 5:30-6 p.m. in fellowship hall.
This will be followed by supper 6-6:30 p.m., and worship 6:30-7 p.m., starting Feb. 21.

St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1415 Rising Sun Road, Laurys Station, will have its Ash Wednesday service 7:30 p.m. Feb. 14.
On Wednesdays during Lent, starting Feb. 21, St. John’s hosts a soup, sandwich and study lunch time at noon.
The group will use the 2018 Lenten devotional prepared by the United Church of Christ Still Speaking Writers’ Group.
Visitors are invited to “Bring your hungry tummy and your hunger to learn and share about the Lord.”

To start the Lenten season, Union Lutheran Church, Schnecksville, provides imposition of ashes and Holy Communion 7 p.m. on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 14.
On Wednesday evenings during Lent, Union Lutheran offers a time for fellowship, food and worship.
Soup and bread will be served in the Family Life Center 6 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Two varieties of soup will be available each week, starting with chicken pot pie, and ham and string bean on Feb. 21.
A free-will donation may be given to defray the cost of the meal.
Worship begins at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary, using the Holden Village Evening Prayer Service.
