Nitchmann: MATHCOUNTS set for Feb. 10

More than 200 students from 23 middle, intermediate and junior high schools in three counties will compete in the annual Lehigh Valley MATHCOUNTS® on Feb. 10, snow date Feb. 11, at Nitschmann Middle School, 1002 W. Union Boulevard. The organizers are the Lehigh Valley Chapter of the PA Society of Professional Engineers for students in Lehigh, Northampton, Carbon, and Monroe Counties.

The event begins with written tests from 9:15 to 11:45 a.m. The top ten scoring students will face off in the countdown round oral competition at 1 p.m. in the school auditorium. Regional winners will advance to the state competition on March 23 and 24 in Harrisburg. The national competition will be held from May 12 to 15 in Washington, D.C.

Middle schools: Dance Feb. 9

There will be a winter semi-formal dance for all BASD middle school students from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 9 at Liberty HS. No outside guests. Proper dress required. Tickets must be purchased in advance from Officer Rodriguez. Drinks and snacks will be sold at the dance. Girls on the Run: Coaches thanked for efforts

Girls on the Run is a North American non-profit program that works to encourage pre-teen girls to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles through dynamic, interactive lessons and running games, culminating in a celebratory 5k run.

We would like to thank the employees and/or community members who committed to being a coach during the successful Lehigh Valley Fall 2017 season.
