School pride is not just a word at Lehigh Valley Academy but something that is embraced throughout every corner of the school. LVA students have just wrapped up their second quarter with that means LVA’s student council is busy at work planning the schools beloved Pep Rally and various other activities. LVA’s student council with the help of Cori Klein has been hard at work organizing an Olympic Games-themed event.

Students in grades 9 through 12 had the opportunity to select what country they wanted their grade to represent. On Feb. 9 students in grades 9 through 12 will go head to head competing in various activities such as a volleyball tournament, hula hoop dodgeball, name the tune and a mystery game. Students in all grades are excited to show off their team pride and part take in such a thrilling event.

Besides planning for the Pep Rally, LVA’s Student Council has created a student council run paper called Jaguar Times to inform the student body of the upcoming event and their classmates birthday. The cover of the journal is LVA’s mascot the Jaguar illustrated by Bella Trauger, 11th grade and is edited by Vidhya Thiyagarajan, 11th grade.

The various event such as sports schedules, upcoming events, and IB trait of the month are included in the newspaper. Every student in student council is given the opportunity to write a piece on various topics.

LVA’s Soul Steppers led by Lauren Hall has taken part in various STOMP Showcases and events. Some of their recent events include performing at Cedar Crest Basketball Half-Time on Jan. 19 and participating in the Stomp Showcase at NorthEast Middle School on Feb. 2. LVA’s Soul Steppers have gone a long way over the past few years and are proud to represent LVA at various competitions and event throughout the Lehigh Valley. With the help of Ariella Mease LVA’s Mini-Thon ® held a “Valentine’s Day Bear Workshop” on Jan. 26. The event took place 3:30-6:30 p.m. and was up to grades K to 12 students and families. Attendees had the opportunity to choose from two packages, the Silver Package which was $15.90 and the Gold Package which was $26.50. A portion of the money collected went to Mini-Thon an organization geared towards fighting pediatric cancer. Along with the workshop attendees had the opportunity to buy baked good/snacks and take part in games all of which were run by students in Mini- Thon. LVA’s Mini-Thon plans to raise at least $10,000 over the span of the upcoming months, with hard work and dedication they are sure that they will exceed that goal!

LVA’s National Honor Society has been busy at work planning various activities from volunteering in LVA’s Math club to planning Valentine Cards for nursing homes. With the help of Kim Della Rosa and Andrew Hall NHS was proud to welcome new NHS members Jan. 25.
