NOTRE DAME NOTES BY Aniela Verbin-Mini-THON ignites excitement

As the winter season swiftly moves along, so do the Crusader winter sports. Senior Ryan McGuire recently celebrated his 100th win on the wrestling team. The wrestling team’s seniors, Bob Fiedler and Ryan McGuire, also commemorated their senior night Jan. 22 along with their two managers Brianna Wolke and Dan Gillespie.

The Lady Crusader’s basketball team seniors, Natalie Galle, Olivia Brandt, Brianna Maslonka and Breene Carlin, will be having their senior night in the next following weeks along with the boys basketball team.

At the boy’s senior night where seniors Nick Melhem, Charlie Hohl and Brian Myers will be celebrated, the senior cheerleaders will also be included. These girls include Aniela Verbin, Alyssa MeGee, Ava Tumminello, Veronica Darno, Isabella Rodriguez, Natalie Vetter, Victoria Cornish and Faith Collina.

On Jan. 19 the Crusaders had the opportunity to attend the March for Life. All grades were eligible to embark the journey to Washington, D.C., supporting Pro-Life. Those who attended said it was a wonderful experience and enjoyed seeing everyone come together to support the cause.

The Crusader family is hosting an Open House Jan. 27 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. when families can attend an information session about the school and participate in a student given tour.

The week of Jan. 29 to Feb. 2 is Catholic Schools Week. Each day is an appreciation day for the following people: Faculty and Staff; Students; Partner Schools; and the Community. Crusaders will attend mass that Monday and will also be holding a blood drive the following Tuesday run by the National Honor Society from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Students can participate if they are 16 or older. So far, NHS has already had 50 signups and more students are signing up daily.

The 10-year anniversary of Mini-THON will be held Feb. 16 and Feb. 17. Crusaders are looking forward to this anniversary and are hoping to make it the biggest Mini-THON yet. Students will be standing for 24 hours from 5:30 p.m. Friday to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, raising money and awareness for childhood cancer.

The Mini-THON Committee has been holding several meetings in order to secure everything in place for the big event. This event means a lot to the Crusader family and is a highlight every year. So far over 300 kids have signed up and are very excited to be supporting such a wonderful cause.

To raise money for THON, the Crusaders are hosting a spaghetti dinner at Our Lady of Lebanon church hall Feb. 11 from 2 to 6 p.m. For more information on tickets and pricing please contact Notre Dame HS. Please come out and support!

There will also be a Snowball dance for 7th and 8th grade students Feb. 23 from 7 to 10 p.m.
