Ballet awakens: The State Ballet Theatre of Russia presents “Sleeping Beauty,” 7:30 p.m. Jan. 25, State Theatre Center for the Arts, Easton. The State Theatre Ballet of Russia, founded by dancer and former Prima Ballerina of The Bolshoi Theatre Ballet, Maya Plisetskaya, is under the direction of dancer and Moiseyev Dance Company soloist Nikolay Anokhin. “Sleeping Beauty,” with music by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, choreography by Marius Petipa and a production by Anatoly Emelianov that includes 55 ballet dancers from Russia, is based on the Brothers Grimm’s version of the fairytale. “Full of enchantment” states a New York Times review. Circus art: The “Art Of Circus,” a new production that features acrobatics and draws inspiration from iconic works of visual arts from the last 500 years, will be presented at 7 p.m. Jan. 26 at the State Theatre for the Arts, Easton. New York based Cirque-tacular Entertainment presents the circus arts through the lens of the visual arts and famous masters. Artists, world-famous paintings, and the time and place of a work’s creation serve as the context and inspiration for acrobatic, theatrical dance, and circus acts. Digital projections, large scale panels, and translucent stained “glass” are utilized throughout, with exquisite costuming and novel circus props. Fans on stage: The new series, “Stage on Stage,” where bands and fans share the stage, kicks off at 8 p.m. Jan. 27 with “A Night of Southern Rock,” featuring The Trongone Band, above, and Acoustic Kitty Project. The main stage will be transformed into a “club” atmosphere with bands and audience on the main stage. Doors open at 7 p.m. The Trongone Band, founded by brothers Andrew and Johnny, includes their father John Sr., and Ben White and Todd Herrington. Acoustic Kitty Project is led by Lehigh Valley singer-songwriter Carter Lansing, and includes Bill Matlack Jr., Mike Carr, Dan DeChellis and Marty Chamberlain.
