The Sanctuary at Haafsville is in the midst of a campaign to raise funds to complete the new building at the facility along Nestle Way in Breinigsville.

The campaign got a shot in the arm recently when Rick Beuttel, the director of business development for Air Products, was on-hand to present Liz Jones, the Sanctuary’s executive director, with a check for $5,000.

The money came from an award given to Beuttel, for his work with the company, and was earmarked for a local charity, left to his discretion.

Beuttel and his wife Sue, adopted a dog from the local no-kill shelter, and their son Ryan is going through training to work at the facility as a volunteer.

“This is going to do a lot, and it’s so important that we get this new building, so we have more space to shelter animals looking for homes,” Jones said.

The new building, just under 2,000 square feet, features 16 indoor/outdoor runs for dogs, with radiant heated floors in the kennels for winter.

There is office space, three meet-and-greet rooms for prospective adoptive families, storage and a medical treatment room. Being able to move the dog care operations into a separate building will also benefit the shelter’s cat population, which will have more room in the current facility once the dogs are moved out.

“We were just happy to help,” Beuttel said.

“It will be nice to see the new building and know that Air Products had a role to play in helping to complete it and help the local community.”

The Beuttel family adopted Luna and added her to their mix of dogs after seeing her online as The Sanctuary was looking for a home for her. It was kind of a love at first sight situation and she has fit in well with the family’s other dogs.

“We’re well familiar with the work here and Luna has become such a part of our family and we’re glad to have her. She fits right in,” Beuttel said.

In a letter to The Sanctuary’s Treasurer, Julie Hoffman, Air Products Community Relations and Philanthropy representative Laurie Hackett, thanked the shelter for its impact on the community.

“At Air Products, we feel fortunate to work with you and appreciate the sincerity and energy that you put into the community to make a significant difference,” Hackett wrote. “The opportunity we have to work with you is one that we take seriously.

“Thank you for serving the community and we are honored to be able to support your mission and the good work of the Sanctuary at Haafsville.”
