During the Jan. 18 Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners meeting, a resident who completed the requirements for his badge for Eagle Scout, was presented a proclamation by the commissioners. Brendan Naiera, from Troop 86, cleaned up the flagpole area at the Lehigh Lodge. The weeds were pulled, area cleaned up and pavers installed.

Resolution 2018-03 which is the final land development plan for Fields at Indian Creek Project Phases 1B and II including a pathway, associated easements and 32 additional single family dwellings was approved.

The commissioners also approved, with Commissioner Douglas Brown recusing himself due to conflict of interest, Resolution 2018-04 which is the preliminary/final subdivision and land development plan approval for Spring Creek Properties Subdivision 2. This involves the Jaindl Land Company. It is a six acre lot subdivision and road right-of-way for dedication for the future extension of Sauerkraut Lane. Also to be included is a two-story 40,000 square foot medical building. Two lots remain for the East Penn School District.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is conducting a traffic study at Krocks Road and Route 222 due to the fact this intersection includes a state-owned route with a locally owned road.

Emmaus High School Athletic Director Dennis Ramella requested use of the fields on Church Lane for baseball. This was approved.

Robert Roth was appointed to the park and recreation board with the term to expire Dec. 31, 2022.

Brent McNabb was appointed to the planning commission but not approved with a vote of 2-3. Brown and Commissioner Richard Ward approved this but the other commissioners voted against this appointment. The thoughts were that new blood was needed on this board. Tom Pickel was appointed with the term to expire Jan. 1, 2022 with a vote of 4-1 with Ward voting against the appointment.

The commissioners, once again, voted to terminate the lease for the billboard on Hamilton Boulevard. Commissioner Brian Higgins voted against the termination.

The traffic signal application for South Cedar Crest Boulevard and Minesite/Devonshire roads, approved by PennDOT, was approved by the commissioners.

An ordinance was approved for the intermunicipal agreement with the Southwest Comprehensive Comp Plan Partners. This agreement includes Macungie, Alburtis, Emmaus, Upper and Lower Milford and Lower Macungie.

The Kratzer Farm Master Site Plan was approved. This area is significant for several reasons, one of which is that it is the geographical center of the township.

An ordinance was approved to increase the sewer rate within the township. The rates will be increased by 15 percent and is due to Environmental Protection Agency mandates.

It was approved to have ordinances be approved by commissioners by roll call voting, just like resolutions.

There was an executive session over real estate issues.
