Lowhill meets for new year

With all positions organized for 2018 the Lowhill Township supervisors’ board was ready to address its agenda for the first regular meeting of the new year.

Supervisors’ Chairman Richard Hughes first made a motion, which was later passed, to approve the December 2017, the reorganization meeting and the auditors meeting minutes.

The next order of business was to review the Sorenson construction sketch plan for 2883 Windy Road.

After discussing the plan, supervisors agreed to approve the sketch plan and allow the company to move forward.

Some issues of old business included the Bear, Narris Road, Winchester and Bittner’s Corner bridges.

No updates on the bridges were available at the Jan. 4 meeting.

Supervisors also established by resolution inspection and user fees as for building electrical, plumbing, mechanical and other similar items.

The second resolution involved closure of 0.59 miles of Winchester Road, between Millcreek and Schierer roads.”

Both were approved by the board.

Supervisors also opened a sealed bid for a used truck.

“[The board] went out to bid for a truck,” Hughes said. “It’s a used truck.

“[Vice Chairman] Buddy [Wessner] and [Road Foreman] Joe [Kalusky] went to look at it and inspect it to make sure everything was OK.

“It’s going to be put to use by having a plow on it and a spreader box.

“The only thing we don’t have is a plow yet, and we’re purchasing that.

The $30,000 bid, including delivery, was from Patriot Auto Sales for a 2007 International six-wheel dump truck.

As the meeting concluded, Hughes asked the board to confirm the firing of Joe Plaska, who was let go Dec. 12, 2017.

The motion was seconded and passed.

The next board meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Feb. 1
