STUDENT OF THE WEEK
Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?
A. I am currently in 12th grade at Emmaus High School.
Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?
A. My favorite subject this year is psychology because I enjoy learning about how the mind works. I’ve always liked science courses and I’ve enjoyed all of the ones that I’ve taken over my high school career, including biology, chemistry, physics and oceanography.
Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?
A. I am a member of both National Honor Society and National Spanish Honor Society. I have also achieved Principal’s Honor Roll for my entire high school career thus far.
Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?
A. At EHS, I have been a Hornet Ambassador for the past year and a half, as well as a member of Interact Club since my freshman year. At my church, I am a youth leader for Operation Christmas Child and serve on the media team. In addition, I have worked at Emmaus Bakery for almost a year.
Q. What is your next goal after high school?
A. After high school, I plan to major in graphic design in the honors program at Messiah College. I am considering a minor in Spanish as well.
Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?
A. My biggest challenge to date was transitioning from a private elementary school to a public high school. I attended Lehigh Christian Academy from kindergarten to eighth grade and switching to EHS in ninth grade was difficult since I didn’t know many people. I’m very glad that I made the switch, though – I have learned a lot from the people I’ve met and the experiences I’ve had at EHS. The fact that I was able to overcome that challenge will definitely help me as I prepare to transition to college and independent living in August.
Q. For what would you like to be remembered?
A. I would like to be remembered for being kind and encouraging to the people around me. I just want to be a light in this world.
Q. Who is in your family?
A. My mother’s name is Kendra and my father’s name is Stephen.
Q. Whom do you admire? Why?
A. I admire my parents for their patience and constant support. I know they will always be there for me and I am thankful for their humor and advice. I hope I can be as good a parent in the future as they are to me.
Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?
A. Don’t be afraid to branch out and try new things. I took a few unique classes this year, like oceanography, drafting and design and personal financial management and I have thoroughly enjoyed all of them.
