The Cancer Support Community of the Greater Lehigh Valley offers the following free education and support programs for cancer patients and their caregivers in January. These programs are offered free of charge to people affected by cancer.

Gentle Yoga
9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Jan. 23 and 30
Practice mild stretching accompanied with breathing techniques to quiet the mind and promote healing. The class is a combination of chair and mat work.
Reiki for Balancing Life
6:30 p.m. Jan. 23 and 10:45 a.m. Jan. 31
We will discuss life challenges that tend to deplete our energy (work, family, money, politics, and responsibilities) and how Reiki can assist in clearing these emotional drains. Meditation included. Instructor: Carrie Beleno.
Mindful Compassion Practice
9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Jan. 17, 24 and 31
Learn to use yoga to increase mindfulness and become more aware of what your body is telling you. Gentle movement with longer held poses will decrease stress and anxiety and restore well-being. Instructor: Maryanne Godbout DNP, PMHCNS-BC.
Kids Karate Project – Kempo
4 to 4:50 p.m. Jan. 17, 24 and 31
Martial arts activities can help children improve balance, increase focus, boost confidence, build stamina, reduce stress and improve overall wellness. Offered in conjunction with Aikido Masters.
Kempo Karate for Adults
9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Jan. 18 and 25
Are you looking for an exciting way to build strength, reduce stress and increase energy? Try this fun new way to get your mind and body into shape. In this style of martial arts, you will learn basic self-defense moves, katas, QiGong meditative breathing techniques and exercises to improve overall health and wellness, giving you a complete but easy to do workout.
T’ai Chi
10:45 to 11:45 a.m. Jan. 18 and 25
T’ai Chi is a whole-body exercise system and can be a means of personal transformation. Gentle postures are used to help reduce stress and fatigue, develop mental relaxation and physical stamina and regain hope and a sense of active participation in an individual’s own quest for wellness. No experience is necessary. Please wear comfortable clothing.
Wellness Workout
9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Jan. 22 and 29
A safe but progressive workout. All exercises are taught to target the level you’re currently at using interval, functional and core training methods to keep you moving and burning calories. Instructor: Regina Heiserman, NASM certified personal trainer from GYMGUYZ.
Creative Expression
11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Jan. 23
Use art as supportive expression by creating artwork that promotes healing, mindfulness and wellness.

Living Life to the Fullest
11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Jan. 17
Death and dying is not a conversation we easily take the time to explore. But discussions around our mortality can be some of the most rational and rewarding acts of a lifetime. This experience will amplify your potential for healing by consciously working on unfinished business. We will explore and investigate our discomfort around the conversations about death, cultivate a joyful heart and find our essential wisdom. Instructor: Barbara Starr. When Counting Sheep Fails
1 to 3 pm Jan. 17
Nearly half of all cancer survivors experience sleep disturbance. To allow the body to rest and heal, it’s important to learn ways to manage this frustrating side effect. Family Series: Good Scents
6 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 18
Cozy up with family members for some lessons in self-care with the use of yoga and aromatherapy. Instructor: Karen Klubertanz, RYT 500, IAYT. This program is offered free of charge to people affected by cancer. Call 610-861-7555 to register.
Healthy Cooking: Hearty Soup Sampling
5:30 to 8 p.m. Jan. 24

Understanding Your Medical Insurance Plan
11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Jan. 30
Become more familiarized with common terminology, learn how to read your explanation of benefits, and feel confident that you are paying only the portion of the services required of you.
