The Whitehall-Coplay School District will announce their 2018 Athletic Hall of Fame inductees on January 12, 2018 before the boys’ varsity basketball game against Pocono Mountain West at 6:45 p.m.

This year’s inductees are John Barton (Class of 1982), Jeff Buskirk (Class of 1984) and Maureen Whitsett (Class of 2004).

John Barton, Class of 1982, made his mark as a football player and thrower on the track team. A two sport athlete at Whitehall, Barton was an EPC Football All-Star and a District XI Shot Put Champion. Barton received All-State recognition in football during his senior season. In addition, he won a Pennsylvania State Powerlifting Championship. Barton participated in the prestigious Big 33 Football Classic before his collegiate playing days at West Virginia University. Barton was a two year letter winner at WVU and in 1986 won the Ideal Mountaineer Award. Barton went on to have a decorated coaching career on the high school level.

Jeff Buskirk, Class of 1984, has had a distinguished career in the sports of Football and Basketball. While at Whitehall, Buskirk was a first team EPC player on both sides of the football, as Defensive Back and Quarterback, during his senior season. He was a member of the 1983 EPC Champion football team. He was a member of the 1983 EPC and District XI Champion basketball team. Earning a scholarship at Syracuse University, Buskirk was a 4 year letter winner. He played in 3 bowl games and was a member of the 1987 team that finished 11-0-1 and 4th in the country. He is a member of the Lehigh Valley Chapter of the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame.

Maureen Whitsett, Class of 2004, stood out on the volleyball court for the Zephyrs. Whitsett was a 2-time All-LVIAC recipient, earning co-MVP honors in 2003. She earned the distinction of 2-time All-District XI Coaches Association All-star and was a 2002 All-State Honorable Mention as well as 2003 All-State 1st Team selection. She was the 2003 LVIAC Scholar-Athlete Recipient in Girls’ Volleyball and Morning Call All-Area. Whitsett played one season at Temple University and was named to the Trustee 10, for having one of the ten highest student-athlete GPA’s.
