A 68-year-old Delaware County man was killed when his Ford Flex SUV struck an International tractor with Hyundai trailer 12:30 p.m. Jan. 7 on I-78 Eastbound between Routes 863 and 100, Upper Macungie Township.
Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim said Fredrick Evans of Norwood, Delaware County, was pronounced dead 1:17 p.m. that day by Lehigh County Deputy Coroner Gabrielle Riley.
Grim said the cause of Evans’ death is attributed to multiple blunt force injuries.
He ruled the manner of his death an accident.
According to State Police Troop M, Fogelsville, the SUV was wedged under the tractor’s trailer with Evan and a passenger inside.
Police say the front seat passenger was extricated by firefighters and transported by Cetronia Ambulance Corps to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.
The tractor trailer was disabled and unoccupied when police arrived.
Fogelsville, Upper Macungie and Weisenberg fire firefighters, along with V&M and Yocum towing services, assisted at the scene.
