LOWER MACUNGIE TOWNSHIP BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

The Jan. 2 Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners meeting began with two commissioners taking the oath of office.

Ronald W. Beitler was re-elected to his role as commissioner and Richard V. Ward was elected as a new member of the board although he had served the last couple of months as a replacement for Ben Galiardo.

Patricia Vassilaros was re-elected and sworn in as the township tax collector.

The Honorable Douglas G. Reichley presided over the event.

Commissioner Brian Higgins was sworn in Dec. 28, 2017 by The Honorable Michael J. Faulkner.

Ronald W. Beitler was elected president of the board and Ward was elected vice president.

The Conflict Solicitor, John Ashcroft, and Conflict Engineer, Hanover Engineering were appointed until a successor is approved.

Township Manager Bruce Fosselman will continue in his role as will Renea Flexer as assistant township manager and secretary.

Jeff Waltemeyer was re-appointed as township treasurer.

Norris, McLauglin and Marcus will remain as township solicitor.

Keystone Consulting Engineers will continue as township engineers. Keystone will also remain as alternate sewage enforcement official. KeyCodes will stay on as alternate electrical inspector and code enforcement official.

The check signatories were determined to be the president of the board and commissioners Ward and Douglas H. Brown.

The township manager was named as the alternate in the event of the township treasurer’s absence.

Appointments to various boards, committees and commissions were also made.

David Wieder was reappointed to the building code board of appeals with a term to expire Jan. 1, 2021 and Greg Capp and Fred Zahradnik were appointed to the environmental advisory council with terms expiring Jan. 1, 2021.

Zahradnik was appointed as chairman of the EAC.

The appointment to the planning commission was tabled with a tied vote as Higgins was absent from the meeting.

Olen Biehl, Mark Spengler and George Caldarelli were appointed to the public safety commission with terms to expire Dec. 31, 2019.

Julie McDonell was reappointed to the vacancy board with the term to expire January 2019.

E. Keller Kline was approved for the zoning hearing board with William Royer approved as the alternate through a resolution.

The committee assignments will remain as they were in 2017.

In other business, commissioners received a request for lighting along the Timmer trail. This will be reviewed.

A resident complained about a disturbance 3 a.m. recently involving a rooster which gets other roosters answering. This will be further researched.
