District Attorney Jim Martin announced Jan. 5 that a Salisbury High School student has been charged in relation to threats he allegedly posted on Snapchat.

Oliver Stewart, 18, of the 1700 block of Piccadilly Circle, Salisbury Township, has been charged by a complaint filed in the office of Magisterial District Judge Michael J. Pochron with one count each of terroristic threats, a misdemeanor of the first degree and harassment, a summary offense.

A warrant was issued and Stewart was scheduled to be arraigned at Central Booking Jan. 5.

On Jan. 4, a screen shot of a Snapchat post threatening the school was emailed to SHS. The school was closed at the time due to inclement weather.

Upon receipt of the email, school administrators contacted the Salisbury Police Department and officers from the department investigated the incident.

As a result of their investigation, it is alleged that Stewart sent the Snapchat post.

Martin said Stewart acted alone and there is no known threat to the community, the school district, the high school or its students and staff.

“Unlike other recent incidents involving alleged student threats, in this case, the student is an adult, so the Juvenile Act does not apply and more details about the incident itself, and the actor, may be released,” Martin said.

Martin thanked the administration and staff of the Salisbury Township School District for their cooperation in this investigation and commended Salisbury Township School Resource Officer Richard Nothstein and members of the Salisbury Township Police Department for their work on this case.

As in every criminal case, the fact that an arrest has occurred or a complaint has been filed is merely an accusation; and the defendant Oliver Stewart, is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
