Cedar Crest College
College designated as ‘militarty friendly’
Cedar Crest College, a Yellow Ribbon approved school, has earned the 2018 Military Friendly School Designation from Victory Media.
The list is compiled annually based on public data and surveys of schools and veterans across the country. Schools are assessed on their ability to meet minimum thresholds for student retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment and loan default rates.
The college, which is a member of the Lehigh Valley Military Affairs Council and A’s for Vets Alliance, was recently named one of the Best Regional Colleges, Best Value Colleges, and Best College for Veterans by U.S. News and World Report.

Writing Prohect workshop Jan 27
The Lehigh Valley Writing Project will hold the annual Best Practices in Teaching Writing Conference: Access for All from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Jan. 27, at the Penn State Lehigh Valley campus, 2809 Saucon Valley Road, Center Valley. The conference features interactive workshops and presentations.
The keynote speaker is Cris Tovani, an internationally known consultant focusing on issues of reading, content comprehension and assessment in secondary classrooms. Recently named ILA’s 2017 Adolescent Literacy Thought Leader, she has been an adjunct professor and is the author of four books.

Laurel Level designation for alumni group
The Lehigh Valley Chapter of the Penn State University Alumni Association was promoted to the Laurel Level Group of Distinction. The award is based on the association’s level of excellence and efforts toward the university and community, such as career networking, social interaction and fellowship, student support and leading THON-related activities.
As part of the Alumni Challenge, the group participated in the sixth annual Alumni Food Drive Challenge at Second Harvest Food Bank of Lehigh Valley and Northeast Pennsylvania. The Penn State team was announced the winner with a collection of 11,988 pounds.
The chapter pledged a challenge gift of $2,500 for Penn State Lehigh Valley’s Giving Tuesday campaign on Nov. 28. The resulting contributions increased the amount raised to $5,000. These donations will benefit the PSU-LV Scholarship fund.
