STUDENT OF THE WEEK
Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?
A. I am currently in 12th grade at Emmaus High School.
Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?
A. My favorite subject is science, and it has been since I was a little girl. I’ve always loved learning how the world really works. Science is a endless source of information and is constantly evolving, which I find fascinating.
Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?
A. I’m a member of National Honor Society, French Honor Society, and Tri-M Music Honor Society. I’ve also received Principal’s Honor Roll for every marking period of my high school career, as well as the Award for Academic Excellence for the past three years. At the end of my sophomore year, I was awarded with Extraordinary Science Student.
Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?
A. I’m active as the treasurer of the Emmaus High School orchestra, and as a member of Key Club. I also participate in Robotics Club, Future Business Leaders of America, French Club, Pennsylvania Math League and tutoring at my school. I volunteer for Big Brothers Big Sisters each week as well.
Q. What is your next goal after high school?
A. I plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, with a possible minor in psychology. One day, I want to earn my doctorate in either chemical or biomedical engineering and do research of my own.
Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?
A. I think my biggest challenge to date and something I’m still working on, is managing my stress. Between my job, classes and extracurriculars, I often find myself overwhelmed. I’ve really been working hard on taking at least a couple hours each week to just relax and enjoy my last full year at home before college.
Q. For what would you like to be remembered?
A. I would like to be remembered for making a difference in at least one person’s life. I love volunteering and it’s something I plan to continue in college and beyond. To be able to make an impact on one person’s life, whether they’re a stranger or family member, is the best way to be remembered in my opinion.
Q. Who is in your family?
A. My mom’s name is Joanie, my dad’s is Kevin, my younger brothers are Ryan and Nathanail, and my golden retriever is Amber.
Q. Whom do you admire? Why?
A. I admire my parents the most because they inspire me each day. Both of them are hard workers with full-time jobs, but they still find time to spend with my brothers and me. They always have been my role models and support me no matter what. I hope that one day I can be an amazing parent just like they are.
Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?
A. My advice is to never hesitate to start something new or challenge yourself. The risk is completely outweighed by the reward of the experience. Plus, you’ll never find what you’re truly passionate about if you never even try a new activity, difficult class, etc.
