A group of officers and board members of the Schnecksville Community Fair will travel to Hershey Lodge in January 2018, for the Pennsylvania State Association of County Fairs 106th annual convention.
They will attend various seminars to find ideas which can be brought back to Schnecksville.
One aspect of the convention is for showmen such as carnival acts, concessionaires and ride operators to publicize what they have to offer.
Performers such as jugglers and musicians will display their talents seeking to be booked by local fairs.
Even ribbon companies and insurance purveyors will be present to show how they can be helpful to fair committees.
In past years, the Schnecksville contingent discovered Hansen’s Spectacular Acrobatic Sensations, Brad Comedy Hypnotist,= and Masters of the Chain Saw at the fair convention.
Schnecksville Fair board member Dianne Minnich reports there is no time to rest after a fair ends its run.
“As soon as one fair ends, we start planning the next one,” Minnich said.
The 2018 fair, from June 19-23, will have popular features including 4-H animals, all kinds of exhibits, handcrafts, a LEGO contest, antique tractor displays, quarter midget racing and fireworks.
Baking contests will be offered again, with the refreshing rhubarb contest attracting judges who enjoy tasting the rhubarb entries.
The fair will have a different ride provider - A.E.B. Amusements of Easton.
A major change for 2018 will be implementation of an admission price for entry to the fair, with payment for rides separate.
Organizers expect the lower admission price, not including rides, will attract people who do not go on rides but who enjoy walking around, viewing exhibits and eating great fair food.
